- George Town - Georgetown is the capital of the island and state of Penang, on the west coast of peninsular Malaysia. Named by the British after King George III. It was listed by UNESCO in 2008 as a World Heritage Site, together with fellow former Straits Settlement, Melaka. The Georgetown metropolitan has a population of 1,253,748, the second largest metropolitan in Malaysia by population. George Town is an interesting and bustling city with modern high rise buildings, cathedrals, mosques, government offices, temples, bazaars, shops and cafes.
